Counselling / Psychotherapy

Logo for Counselling Page

Counselling / psychotherapy is an opportunity to talk to someone who is trained to listen attentively and to respond in a supportive and non-judgemental way

As your counsellor / psychotherapist I will not offer advice, but I will offer you my full attention and a commitment to assist you in developing your own solutions, insights, awareness and understanding of the issues that are important to you.

Reasons for using counselling/psychotherapy

All sorts of people make use of counselling/ psychotherapy to help them address all sorts of issues and concerns, which affect them emotionally or touch them deeply, such as:

How I work

Sessions are usually 50 minutes long and held regularly (usually weekly) with an additional 5-10 minutes at the beginning or end of each session for administration such as booking future appointments.
At the initial session you will have the opportunity to discuss a little of what brings you to counselling/psychotherapy, ask me any questions you may have about the way I work and find out if you think you would like to work with me.

Together we agree how long you wish to work for, and review our progress at regular intervals. I work with clients on a short-term basis (8-10 sessions) and on much longer term basis, whichever is appropriate for you.

I am a member of the BACP and registered with the UKCP, both of which offer an Ethical Framework (Code of Practice) within which I work. If, at any time you feel concerned about therapy I hope you will feel able to address your concerns at one of our reviews, however if you feel a need to formalise this, you may make a complaint to either of these professional bodies.
